Performing arts are one of the most emotionally engaging and immersive forms of Chinese ICH, bringing historical stories, folk beliefs, and collective emotions vividly to life across time and space. Cantonese opera, Nanyin, Kunqu, dragon and lion dances, regional operas, and folk dances are all representative examples. These performances are not just entertainment—they are cultural mirrors reflecting regional characteristics and national wisdom.

In Hong Kong, performing arts possess a unique vitality, preserving the depth of Lingnan culture while staying connected to the global stage. The Foundation employs a dual approach of “traditional performance + innovative expression.” We support authentic renditions of classic works while encouraging integration with modern stage technologies and cross-disciplinary arts. For example, we have combined dragon and lion dances with immersive light shows, allowing audiences to feel as though they are traveling through history; and worked with contemporary music teams to produce electronic adaptations of Nanyin, engaging younger audiences with its renewed charm.

Our “Young Performers Program” offers comprehensive training in performance skills, stage presence, cultural knowledge, and international exposure. Through partnerships with overseas festivals and resident theatres, we bring performing arts from Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area to global audiences.

We believe the vitality of performing arts lies in constant dialogue with the times. As long as form and content resonate emotionally with contemporary audiences, these traditions can transcend boundaries and become a shared cultural treasure for humanity.
